AI Writing Report: A Simpler Way to Interpret Results

Turnitin has simplified the way likely AI-generated content is displayed within the AI Writing Report.

Previously, the report used blue and purple highlighting to distinguish between likely AI-generated writing and likely AI-generated text that had subsequently been modified using AI paraphrasing or bypassing tools.

The updated report brings these together under a single blue highlight.

The aim is to reduce the risk of overinterpreting distinctions between different types of AI-generated content and help educators focus on the information that matters when reviewing student work. Turnitin

Why it matters

Perhaps the most important part of this update isn’t the colour change.

It’s the principle behind it.

Turnitin continues to emphasise that an AI writing score should inform conversations and further review rather than act as the sole basis for an academic integrity decision.

As AI becomes increasingly integrated into everyday writing tools, understanding the context around a student’s work remains essential.
