Multipart Assignments: Supporting the Full Assignment Journey

Assessment doesn’t have to focus only on the final submission. Turnitin’s Multipart Assignments give educators a way to structure an assessment across several connected stages, creating more opportunities for feedback, reflection and revision.

Educators can connect up to eight Standard and Clarity assignments into a single workflow. For example, a larger assessment could move from an outline to an annotated bibliography, first draft and final submission.

Each stage remains its own assignment, but together they create a connected assessment journey. When Clarity is used across consecutive stages, students can also continue developing their existing work rather than starting again.

Why it matters

This gives educators greater visibility into how student work develops over time, while giving students opportunities to respond to feedback and strengthen their work before final submission.

As institutions rethink assessment in the age of AI, focusing on the process of learning as well as the final product can also help support more authentic assessment practices.
